Winner: Destin Henderson (Northview High School)
Destin is the 2017 recipient of the Sandra Griggs Medical Scholarship. Destin is a senior at Northview High School in Dothan, Al. Throughout his middle and high school career he has shown a propensity for math and science. Destin has been accepted into Troy University where he plans to pursue a degree in Nursing.

Destiny Gartmond is our 2016 Winner. She graduated from Ashford High School.
Winner: Chastity Cooper (Northview High School)
Chastity is the 2015 Sandra Griggs Medical Scholarship. Chastity is a senior at Northview High School in Dothan, Al. Chastity's goals are to attend a four year institution and major in nursing. Her long term goals are to attend graduate school to ultimately become a Nurse Practitioner. She aspires to someday open a free clinic and travel abroad to help others in medical need. Chastity receives inspiration from her mother who is also a nurse. Chastity is not only dedicated to her academics, but she also goes above beyond to help in her community. Chastity volunteers in her church, spends time with special needs children, and has accumulated over 500 volunteer hours at Flowers Hospital helping patients with their needs.
Chastity will be participating in the Apprentice Doctor Medical Camp in Tampa, Florida hosted on the University of South Florida’s campus summer 2015. She will then attend college in the fall to continue to her aspirations in nursing at Troy University.
Shaina is the 2014 recipient of the Sandra Griggs Medical scholarship under the Griggs Education Foundation. Shaina is hardworking, loves helping people, and not afraid of a challenge. She will be jumpstarting her medical career by attending the University of Alabama in Birmingham this fall where she plans on pursuing a degree in Biology with a minor in Business. Shaina is also sponsored to attend the Apprentice Doctor Medical Camp in Tampa, Florida in June.
There is no doubt Shaina has overcome a lot of adversity, yet she has maintained her stamina and positive personality. Shaina’s father, who was in the military passed away unexpectedly during the summer of 2012. This tragedy just following her mother’s remission of cancer. Throughout all of this Shaina has continued to maintain excellence in her academics and continued to others through community service.
Shaina plans on becoming a cosmetic surgeon with a focus on the pediatric and reconstruction side of the field. Her long term goal is to start a foundation called the Beauty in You Foundation that will assist families that cannot afford cosmetic surgery for their children the funds to do so. “Our children are our future, so why not help them be all they can be”.
Winner: Alexis (Lexie) Lee (Northview High School Senior)
Lexie Lee set high goals for herself. She decided in high school that she was determined to earn a college degree, but in spite of good grades, a high class standing and extracurricular activities, Lexie knew financing her college education would be difficult.
Growing up in a single parent household is difficult, but it became more difficult when Lexie’s mother, Angelia, became diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Cancer, which left her unable to work. Angelia is Lexie’s cheerleader and encouraged her to continue to work hard. Although financial constraints seemed overwhelming Lexie did not give up on her dream in order to pursue her dream to attend college.
Lexie applied for and received the Sandra Griggs Medical scholarship under the Griggs Education Foundation. Lexie also granted sponsorship to attend The 2013 Apprentice Doctor Pre-Medical Summer Camp in Tampa, Florida to jump-start her medical career and meet other students from all over the world with the same passion and zeal she has for helping others.
As a 2013 Northview High School graduate, Lexie will attend Troy State University in Troy, Alabama where she will pursue a degree in Nursing. Lexie has a passion for working with disabled children and plans to pursue a specialization in Pediatric Nursing.
