Congratulations to our 2014 Scholarship Recipient, Shaina G., of Abbeville High School. Shaina plans on attending University of Alabama in Birmingham. Shaina has such a big heart. Her goals are to become a cosmetic surgeon with a focus on the pediatric and accident reconstruction side of the field.
My goal one day is to start a foundation called “The Beauty in You Foundation." The foundation will provide families that cannot afford cosmetic surgery for their children the funds to do so.
Shaina will also participate in The Apprentice Doctor held at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida
In addition to receiving an academic scholarship, our first recipient, Alexis Lee, received sponsorship from the Griggs Education Foundation to attend a week-long, pre-medical camp called The Apprentice Doctor in Tampa, Florida.
This is the first time that Alexis has flown in an airplane and this is the furthest that she has been away from home. This opportunity has put her in contact with students from several different countries such as Taiwan, India, South Africa, and Puerto Rico.
Alexis and her classmtes received hands-on experience at the world-renowned Center for Advanced Medical Learning Simulation (CAMLS) Lab located at the University of South Florida. CAMLS combines simulations with the latest research and advancements in the medical field. This was a great opportunity for her and will help her to become a better nurse.
